Art Deco Dress Up Day

What a fabulous looking bunch of Art Deco outfits we saw last Friday.

The day began with our parade in the Hall where we got to check out all of the other students. The judges were watching at this time, picking the best dressed.

Following this, the Middle School were fortunate to have Mrs Kirsty Jones teaching us a few dance moves where we worked up a sweat.

Thank you for all the effort that went into this!

To check out some of our photos from the day, see the Room 4 or Room 5 page.

Swimming Skills

The Middle School students have jumped feet first into their formal swimming lessons this week with Ms Petherick being stationed over at the pool and running these sessions.

During our swimming time today, we had a visitor named Tracey from Swim Safe NZ.

Below are some photos of the skills we practiced with her assistance.

Meet and Greet

It was great to meet so many parents this afternoon at our beginning of the year 'Meet and Greet'.
For any parents or caregivers who were unable to make it along to this event, the handout is below.

Our Learning environment is an exciting and vibrant space where we work collaboratively
(staff and students).

Home Learning is not compulsory, but it is encouraged.  Weekly your child will have a maths
learning goal.  This helps to build their maths knowledge and also supports the strategy work
which your child is mastering in their classroom learning.  Spelling is also given weekly.
Depending on your child’s learning needs he/she may be on Steps Web, have a spelling list,
or an experts worksheet.  Spelling is tested every Wednesday. Reading can vary from a journal
given by the reading teacher, to an article or excerpt, their own library book, or a book of interest
from home.  The Middle School teachers are keen to have the children read and do not mind if they
prefer to read a book of their own choice rather than a school selected one, as a motivated, happy
reader will read for longer.

If you have questions about your child’s learning, we ask that you address these to their Home
Room teacher.  The three middle school teachers work closely together, and meet often so we have
a good understanding of the learning levels of the children (even if another of the Middle School
teachers are teaching them in the area of Maths,Reading or Swimming).

The Food Fair is coming up soon.  This is an important fundraiser for the school.  We will be
needing donations of food and assistance will the stalls.  More notices will come home about this
closer to the time.
Each class has a different “food” responsibility.
Room 4 - making and selling corn fritters
Room 5 - making and selling spiders (ice cream and fizzy drink).
Room 6 - making and selling ice cream desserts (with choice of toppings)

Independence is encouraged in the Middle School.  Already parents are getting the blame,
with children saying “Mum forgot to put my swimming togs in my bag” or “Dad forgot my notice”.
Where possible, please encourage your child to do school tasks themselves.

Dates and information - mostly covered in the Day One newsletter.  Additional copies are
available of this if you need another one. The School App and newsletter will also have details
of the upcoming events.

Thanks for popping in today.
