Inquiry - Making a Whodackymanacky

This term, the students of Clive School were involved in planning, designing and constructing a 'whodackymanacky' to make a ball travel either through air, over water, or across a constructed object. All students got to test their invention out to see if it achieved the desired purpose.

Some students were so engaged in their learning, they even had their family inventing at home. Here is one of our final inventions being put to the test.

A big thank you to all parents, caregivers, family and whanau who were as invested in this project as the students!

Clive School Production

A huge thank you to all of the parents and caregivers who helped us prepare, who came along to support us at the performances and who ensured we each had a wet suit or hooded towel to wear for the production earlier this week.

We had an absolute BLAST planning, preparing, perfecting and performing our item on Splash Planet.

Te Wiki o te reo Maori

This week in Room 5 and across Clive School, we have been celebrating te reo. One aspect we have been learning about is our mihi (introduction). As a class we noticed some similarities between our school waiata which we sing at Kapa Haka each week and the different aspects of our mihi. We hope you like our work below;

Visual Art

We have been busy in Room 5 completing artwork to be used for our Calendar Art fundraiser later in the Term. To complete this artwork, we have been experimenting with a range of different art materials and techniques.

We have been using;
 - Large Brush Stroke Painting
- Bubble Painting
- Colourful Crayon and Paint Prints
- 'PicsArt App' to apply artistic filters to our photos (see below)

Regular (before applying filter)

Altered (after applying filter)

We look forward to showing you our Calendar Art when it is completed!

Snappy Story Starters

Writing, writing, writing!
In Room 5, we have been learning about how to begin our writing in a way that makes our readers want to keep reading. We have been learning how to hook them in using a number of different techniques.
Read the first few sentences from some of our holiday recounts below and see if you want to keep reading...

"Weeee!" I was zooming super fast through the air.

- Kaiden

"Aaarghhh!" I screamed with fear, luckily my family were there when the most scary thing happened.

- Jacana

"Can we please sell the chocolates today?" said Elena to her Mum. "Sure" said Amy (Elena's Mum).

- Grace

"Yay, yay, yay, lets go!" The drive took two hours but then we finally made it to Taupo.

- Arthur

'Ding-Dong' went the door bell early on Sunday morning. It was Delilah who was going to help us sell our baking.

- Ruby

Bounce, bounce, bounce! The Taylor Hawks were playing against the Rams.

- Lachlan

"No, no, no! I don't want to go to Auckland, I just want to stay home" I said, feeling annoyed because we were going to go to Shout.

- Hannah

Zoom! Zoom! Zoom! I was surfing and that zooming sound was me doing cutbacks and turns on my board.

- Blake

Winners of the Hive Classroom Points

Room 5 were so excited to win the Hive Points from Term Two but on the last day of the term, the weather didn't look very inviting for their reward.
They waited until the first day back in the new term to celebrate their hard work from the previous term.
Fifteen minutes playing in the sunshine on the Clive School playground. Wooohooo!

Sport HB - Skills in Schools - Hockey

Thanks to Sport Hawke's Bay, our Clive kids have started learning hockey skills with a professional coach. They are engaged and involved in learning about how to dribble a hockey ball as well as beginning to juggle.

Children who already have hockey skills are developing an what they already know and advancing their skills further.

Football Skills

During our Physical Education Sessions this term, we have been learning about football skills with Mrs Garrett and Mr Maunder.

We have been learning to;
 -  strike the ball using the correct part of our foot
 - strike the ball with accuracy
 - strike the ball with appropriate power

Alongside all of this, we have been working as a team and helping one another out. Check out our future NZ football stars in action below...

iWay Scooter Safety

This term, we have been fortunate to have worked alongside iWay as they deliver their Scooter Safety Sessions. We had a lot of fun during our first lesson and learnt some important skills to keep us safe when scooting on the footpath.

The iWay team will continue to work with us throughout the year to deliver these lessons.

Art Deco Day

What a fabulous looking bunch of Art Deco outfits we saw last Friday.

The day began with our parade in the Hall where we got to check out all of the other students. The judges were watching at this time, picking the best dressed.

Following this, the Middle School were fortunate to have Mrs Kirsty Jones teaching us a few dance moves where we worked up a sweat.

Thank you for all the effort that went into this!

We love being students in Room Five,
Working together, we learn and we thrive.

We are proud of our school and proud of Clive,
We have a lot of enthusiasm and plenty of drive.

We all work hard when we are in the Hive,
To achieve our goals we always strive.

Each morning, we are happy when we arrive,
Grins from ear to ear, we feel so alive!
