Room 6

Room 6 Last Friday our Year 3 and Year 4 groups showed us what we had been learning in Percussion.

Room 6 Hockey Lessons (Sport HB).
Sport HB has been teaching us hockey skills on Wednesday mornings.

Room 6: Today Room 6 went to the Aquarium.

We have been studying about fossils and how scientists use them to learn about what dinosaurs were like.  We learned that Joan Wiffen discovered that dinosaurs lived in New Zealand. She found the first fossils in Hawke's Bay!

We made our own fossils. These will take a week to set before we can break them to 'discover' our fossils.

We broke up limestone rocks using a variety of tools to find the fossils.

We had a talk about dinosaurs. We found out that dinosaurs are based on the land. The other ancient creatures are reptiles ( land and sea).  While we were there we also visited the penguins where penguins are rescued and had a walk through the rest of the Aquarium.

Thanks to all of our amazing parents who helped to make this experience possible for us.

Room 6 Digital Circus: Today we learned how we can use the Scratch Jnr app to help us to explore Narratives.

We talked about Narratives and planned a short story with Toni.

Then we talked about the techniques we would need to make the narrative on Scratch Jnr.
We practiced. We learned some things from each other and worked out other things by ourselves.

Our stories about the Scuba Diver were really amazing!

Room 6 Kapa Haka: Today we practised out Maori pronunciation and actions with Mr Bassett.

Room 6 iWay Scooter Safety Programme:

On Wednesday 1st May we had our first iWay Scooter Safety session with Fran, Chris and Sabrina.
It was fun.
We started by checking out helmets to see if we had them adjusted properly. Some of us had to borrow helmets from the iWay Scooter leaders. They gave us little red caps to cover our hair before we used the helmets.

After we had checked our helmets, we  took our scooter out to the car-park and our tutors showed us how to to hop, stop and brake safely.

Finally we practised scooting in a circle around some cones ready for our next lesson when we will go out to practise our safety skills on the footpath outside the school.

What a busy first term we have had in Room 6.

This term, we have been fortunate to have the EIT Candidate Teachers (Mr Maunder, Miss Simmons and Mr Sinton) working with us. We have been researching our school mural and working on presentations to share this learning with others. In the final week of the term, we presented our learning to a Middle School audience.

If you want to know any more about the mural that is in the Clive School Hall, ask any of the members of Room 6.
